Grounded in the profound teachings and sacred traditions of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage and inspired by the enduring legacy of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the Zhung Dratshang has, for generations, served as a cornerstone of Bhutan’s religious and
cultural identity.
Under the spiritual guidance and leadership of successive Je Khenpos, the Zhung Dratshang provides leadership, governance, and institutional oversight to monastic bodies, Buddhist institutes of higher learning, shedras, schools, meditation centres, drubdras, monastic colleges, and monasteries across the country. The Zhung Dratshang is committed to safeguarding Bhutan’s invaluable religious heritage and ensuring its continued vitality and relevance for present and future generations. Through the systematic preservation and transmission of Buddhist teachings, traditional knowledge, religious practices, language, literature, and cultural values, it contributes to the continuity and flourishing of Bhutan’s distinctive spiritual
heritage.
